Excuse my ignorance but is a crow and a raven the same thing?

They are both Corvids but different species. Ravens are bigger, scruffier, more powerful, with a huge vocabulary of sounds. Crows, at least in California, are their sleeker, smaller billed, cousins. Perhaps I’ll do a compare contrast post one day.
