Stunning! Quite a brain teaser. I take it this is water sitting on the wood and top map? Or just a top map that looks like wood? And is that an outdoor art piece in itself?

This is an un-retouched image of the birds on a lagoon. There are tall columns in sunlight nearby and they have many vertical grooves causing high contrast shadows. The water transforms these lines into what you see here.
